A NICE
PRESENT FOR GRANDMA
Jeff was
nineteen when he got his first job. He was a bricklayer. He built houses. Every
month, he put £50 into his bank account.
Soon, he had a lot of money. Jeff had a nice old grandma and he loved her very
much. She made delicious cakes, pies and stews. He loved to visit her! He
usually visited her every week. He rang her up every day. Five months after he
started work, it was his grandma’s birthday. He wanted to buy her a special
present. He wanted to buy maybe a puppy or a kitten for her. She lived by
herself. A pet is good company! He went to the pet shop. He looked at all the
animals. Suddenly, he heard some talking. ‘Hello,
how are you?’ He looked around, but he
did not see anybody. ‘Hey, you!
I am up here!’ Jeff looked up and he saw
a parrot. It was red and blue and it talked and talked and talked. Jeff loved
it, but it was expensive. It was an interesting pet, a good companion for
grandma. He bought it. It took all of his savings! The pet shop owner delivered
the parrot to Jeff’s grandma that day. The
next day, Jeff rang her. He asked if she liked the parrot. ‘Yes,’ she
replied. ‘I loved it. It was very tasty. I ate it with chips and peas.’
